We’re not a sustainable company & we don’t make sustainable footwear. Yet…
Disrupting the status quo and challenging the mainstream has always been the Vivobarefoot way. We began by making barefoot footwear in a world filled with cushioned, sedentary lifestyles. Now, we’re committed to building a responsible business in an industry notorious for exploitation, extraction, short-termism, and waste.
We don’t make sustainable footwear yet. But we’re working hard to change that—and go one step further.
If sustainability means ignoring past damage and simply avoiding further harm, we believe that’s not enough. We aim for regeneration—restoring and renewing natural and social systems through our business practices.
Our Commitment Is Built on Three Pillars:
1. Regenerative Business
We commit to building a healthy, profitable, and fiercely independent business that delivers a net positive impact for both people and the planet.
-
Unfinished Business:
We measure Vivobarefoot’s success using fifteen metrics across the business. Our annual report shows how we’re progressing. -
B Corp:
We became a certified B Corp in 2020 with a score of 98.8. We recertified in 2024, improving our score to 119.3.
2. Regenerative Product
From circular design to material innovation and transparency throughout the value chain, we’re working hard to develop products that will ultimately help regenerate planetary health.
-
Our Product Goals:
We’ve set seven key goals to guide our footwear development. These include achieving 100% transparency over our value chain, circular design, ethical sourcing, using bio-based materials over synthetics wherever possible, and—our ultimate goal—creating products with a truly regenerative impact. We still have a long way to go, but these goals show the direction we’re headed.

Materials and Sustainability Scoring:
Since there isn’t a global standard for measuring sustainable fashion and footwear, we created our own: the V Matrix, an in-house tool for assessing the environmental impact of our footwear.
More on the V Matrix in our Unfinished Business report.
3. Regenerative Community
Our community is growing every day. Whether someone is an employee, ambassador, value chain partner, or customer, we aim to empower everyone in our community to reach their potential and embrace a more human and natural way of living and working.
