What are customs and import fees? When goods are shipped to a different country, the local customs authority may charge a fee to allow them to enter. This is known as a customs or import duty and the amount varies depending on the country the goods are being delivered to and the value of the items being imported. These charges are set by your local government and are completely outside of our control.
Will I need to pay customs fees on my Vivobarefoot order? It depends on where you're ordering from. Here's a simple breakdown:
- UK orders: all taxes and fees are calculated and included at checkout, so there's nothing extra to pay on delivery
- US, France, Germany, Sweden, Spain and other EU countries: all taxes and fees are handled at checkout through our payments partner Global-E, so again there's nothing extra to pay on delivery
- Rest of World: depending on your country's import regulations you may be charged customs fees by your local authority either at checkout or when your order arrives. Where the option is available to prepay duties and taxes at checkout, this will be offered to you during the ordering process. We'd recommend prepaying where possible to avoid any unexpected charges or delays at the border
If you're unsure whether your country charges import duties on footwear, we'd recommend checking with your local customs authority before placing your order.
What if I refuse to pay the customs fee? If you choose not to pay the customs fee and your parcel is rejected at the border, we'll need to wait for it to be returned to us before we can process a refund. Please be aware that in some cases a shipping and handling fee may be deducted from your refund once the parcel is received back at our warehouse.
I need a VAT or tax-free invoice, can you help? We're not currently able to process VAT-free or tax-exempt orders. If you require a commercial invoice for customs purposes, please get in touch with our support team with your order number and we'll be happy to provide one.
What is Sales Tax / VAT / GST? Sales Tax, VAT and GST are all names for the same type of tax, a charge applied to the sale of goods and services. The name varies depending on the country. Vivobarefoot is registered for this tax in all countries it ships to, so where applicable it will be included in the price you pay at checkout. We collect this on behalf of your local tax authority and pay it directly to them.
